Brady Press Briefing Room before returning to his teleprompter. Taking in the surprised glances, the hushed whispers back and forth. They were off-balance. Good.

He’d been walking a tightrope himself ever since the election, trying to strike a balance between the mandate he’d been given by the American voter, and the aggressive counterterrorism posture made necessary by the attacks in Vegas, in the face of critics claiming that his opposition to the security state and all-too-public clash with the intelligence community meant that he was “weak on terrorism.”

This was about proving them wrong.

Assured that the full impact of his words had sunk in, the President continued, “Working together on information provided by the US and Egyptian intelligence communities, the Egyptian military and United States Air Force were able, earlier today, to target and eliminate four high-ranking ISIL leaders. Naeem Ali bin Zubaida, the ‘governor’ of the Islamic State’s province in the Sinai. Umar ibn Hassan, an American-born cleric. . .”
